At The Aquatic Academy, we believe that every swimmer has the power to be limitless.

Based in Croydon, Kempton Park, we offer high-quality swimming lessons for all ages — from toddlers to competitive athletes. Our focus is on water safety, stroke development, discipline, and building confidence in and out of the pool.

Founded in 2002 by Liz Humphrey, a certified international swim coach, the academy has trained hundreds of swimmers to achieve their best — whether that means learning to float, qualifying for nationals, or simply falling in love with the water.

Her commitment to building not just swimmers but limitless achievers is the heartbeat of our academy.

Breaking Down Barriers: Swimming Beyond Stereotypes

The notion that "white men can't dance and black men can't swim" is a myth that has long plagued competitive swimming. Stereotypes like "swimming is only for white people" or "football and running are for black people" ignore the real reasons behind underrepresentation in the sport. Lack of access to clean municipal pools, limited exposure in diverse communities, and scarce opportunities are the true barriers.

The ESP Kempton Park Piranhas have debunked these stereotypes, showcasing talent and determination from swimmers of diverse backgrounds. At our Academy, race and diversity take a backseat – children are children, and every child is taught that they're limitless. We believe that swimming begins with learning, and every journey starts with a single step. With the right exposure and opportunities, anyone can excel in the sport.

lIZ Humphrey

Founder & Head Coach

Liz is a dedicated aquatic sports enthusiast and former national swimmer with honors. After competing in Masters, she now shares her expertise with the next generation. As a certified ACSA International Level 5 Age Group Coach, Liz provides exceptional coaching for aspiring swimmers. Liz's passion for coaching not gone unnoticed, she has won the EGA Coach of the Year twice. This prestigious recognition highlights her commitment to cultivating talent and her ability to inspire athletes to achieve their best.

HOD: Learn 2 Swim

My passion for ensuring children are safe in the water began at an early age, after attending the funeral of a 4-year-old child who had drowned. My son, a competitive swimmer taught me the joy of being a “swim mom.” Today, I am proud to have turned that passion into a purpose—as a swim instructor, I am fully committed to every swimmer who crosses my path.

With 15 years of dedicated swimming experience, I proudly represented South Africa in prestigious competitions like the Cana Games and Socini Games. Now, I am excited to transition my passion for the sport into the coaching industry, where I can inspire and guide the next generation of swimmers.

After a few years away from the pool, I returned to ensure my children learn about water safety, which ignited my passion for swimming once again. I’m dedicated to teaching not only the importance of water safety but also refining stroke techniques to help young swimmers master all strokes. Join us as we dive into a world of fun, fitness, and essential life skills!

Swimming Instructor

As a former all-round sports player, I proudly represented the Southern Gauteng Hockey Team and developed a passion for swimming at young age. Now, as I pursue my teaching degree, I am dedicated to helping children learn in ways that are most effective for them. My experiences in sports have instilled in me the value of teamwork and perseverance, which I aim to pass on to all my Learn-To-Swim students.

I am a very loud and proud “swim mom” to a competitive swimmer. As a Learn To Swim instructor, my main focus with new swimmers is to progress them from scared beginners to water safe, competent and confident swimmers who fall in love with being in the water.
